Done-for-you onboarding & paywall experimentation

Turn more app installs into subscribers.

We audit, design, and run onboarding and paywall experiments for subscription apps — from finding conversion leaks to shipping and analysing every test.

Strategy, design, implementation, and analysis — powered by FlowPilot.

Example funnel showing where subscription apps lose users. Illustrative figures, not a customer result. App install: 100 percent of installs. Onboarding started: 91 percent of installs. Onboarding finished: 58 percent of installs, flagged as Leak 01 — Drop-off mid-onboarding. Paywall viewed: 24 percent of installs, flagged as Leak 02 — Never reach the paywall. Trial started: 9 percent of installs, flagged as Leak 03 — Bounce off the paywall.

The bottleneck

Most subscription apps are not testing enough.

Teams know their onboarding and paywall matter, but experiments get delayed by unclear strategy, design backlogs, engineering priorities, and slow release cycles.

Stall 01

No clear experiment roadmap

Ideas get argued in Slack instead of ranked by expected impact.

Stall 02

Designs stay in Figma

A variant that never leaves the file can't teach you anything.

Stall 03

Engineering can't prioritise funnel changes

Onboarding tweaks lose every sprint to roadmap commitments.

Stall 04

Teams measure activity, not revenue

Screen views move. Trials and renewals don't.

FlowPilot removes the strategy and execution bottlenecks.

How it works

An experimentation team that actually ships.

One team from hypothesis to shipped variant to result. Each cycle sets up the next.

  1. 01Audit

    Find the biggest conversion leaks

We review your onboarding, paywall, pricing, offers, analytics, and user journey to identify the highest-leverage opportunities.

  2. 02Experiment

Design and launch the right test

We turn the strongest hypothesis into a production-ready onboarding or paywall experiment and ship it through FlowPilot.

  3. 03Learn

    Measure revenue impact and iterate

We analyse the result, document what we learned, and use it to prioritise the next experiment.

The entry point

Start with a free funnel audit.

We'll review your current onboarding and paywall, identify the largest conversion opportunities, and show you the first experiments we would run.

  • Complete onboarding and paywall review
  • Three major conversion leaks
  • Three prioritised experiment ideas
  • Recommended first experiment
  • Short recorded walkthrough
  • Clear next steps

Built for subscription apps with enough traffic to test meaningful changes. We read every application and record the walkthrough ourselves, so we take a limited number each month.

Paywall

Observation

Roughly a quarter of installs ever reach the paywall. The drop concentrates on the two longest onboarding questions, both of which ask for input before the app has shown any value.

Why it matters

Users who never see the paywall can't convert. This caps every downstream pricing or offer test you run, because they're all competing for a shrinking pool.

Hypothesis

Moving the two high-friction questions after a personalised result screen may increase the share of installs that reach the paywall, and lift install → trial start.

The engagement

We handle the full experimentation cycle.

One team owns the experiment end to end. Nothing waits in a queue between disciplines.

No handoff between a strategist, a designer, and a developer. We take the experiment from idea to production.

01

Strategy

Where the money is leaking, and what to test first.

  • Funnel & analytics review
  • Experiment roadmap
  • Hypothesis design
  • Prioritisation
02

Creative

The variant itself — screens, offers, and the words on them.

  • Onboarding design
  • Paywall design
  • Offer & pricing tests
  • Conversion copywriting
03

Execution

Built, checked, and live — without a slot on your sprint board.

  • Variant implementation
  • Quality assurance
  • Experiment launch
  • Monitoring
04

Learning

What the result actually means, and what it sets up next.

  • Performance analysis
  • Documented findings
  • Next experiment
  • Ongoing iteration

Powered by our own platform

Experiments shouldn't sit in a release backlog.

FlowPilot lets us design, publish, and test native onboarding and paywall experiences without rebuilding every variant inside your app.

The work

What we actually test.

Every experiment starts as a written hypothesis with one number that decides it. These are the categories we work through.

EXP-01Onboarding length

Example hypothesis

Cutting onboarding from nine steps to five may increase the share of installs that reach the paywall.

What changes for the user

Questions that don't personalise anything are removed, and the rest are reordered so value arrives before effort.

Metric evaluated

Install → paywall view

Hypotheses, not promises. A well-run experiment can return a negative result — that outcome still tells you where not to spend the next one.

How we work

Built around rigorous experimentation, not random redesigns.

A redesign is a guess with a deadline. These are the rules that turn guesses into a system that compounds.

  1. 01

Every test begins with a written hypothesis

If we can't say what we expect to happen and why, it isn't ready to ship.

  2. 02

One primary metric is chosen before launch

Picked up front, so a result can't be reinterpreted after the fact.

  3. 03

    Revenue quality beats surface conversion

A variant that lifts trial starts but not renewals hasn't won anything.

  4. 04

    Losing tests still produce learning

A negative result narrows the field. It gets documented like any other.

  5. 05

The next experiment follows actual behaviour

The roadmap gets re-ranked after each result, not written once in month one.

Questions

Before you apply.

The things founders ask us first.

We walk your onboarding and paywall journey the way a new user would, review the funnel and the analytics you already have, and identify the largest opportunities. You get three flagged conversion leaks, three prioritised experiment ideas, a recommended first experiment, and a short recorded walkthrough.
